It's not related to a specific alloy. Our steel grade (I represent Sandvik) used in surgical blades like scalpels and microtome blades are 13C26. But in lower end surgical blades also 420J2, 420, 420HC, 1.4112 and several other steels are used. Surgical steels is usually 316L, which is not a very good knife making material. It holds an EXTREMELY sharp edge for a very small number of cuts, so it fits the use of a scalpel very well, and is great with corrosion resistance (blood, etc) but is relatively soft. The 420 steel that provides the 3H (high corrosion resistance, high strength, high hardness), it’s a very popular budget steel, used by the knife makers to craft high corrosion resistance budget knife.
